STRAY DOGS IN SvANETIA: A CHALLENGE FOR THE REGION
The problem of stray dogs in Svaneti is complex and affects local communities and the environment. Homeless dogs not only pose a threat to human health and safety, but also to other animals. The lack of effective control of the dog population and the absence of an adoption and care system mean that the number of homeless dogs is steadily increasing. This phenomenon negatively affects tourism, as well as the image of the region as an attractive place to live and visit. There is an urgent need for coordinated action, including adoption programs, sterilization, public education and shelter construction, to effectively manage the homeless dog population and improve the quality of life for both people and animals.
Our Goals
Solving the problem of stray dogs in Svaneti requires a multifaceted approach. It is important to develop and implement mass sterilization and neutering programs that effectively control the dog population. In addition, it is necessary to establish appropriate regulations governing the registration and care of animals to reduce the number of abandoned dogs. Local authorities should involve the community in educating them about proper animal care, promoting adoption and caring for homeless dogs. Establishing a shelter to provide care, rehabilitation and adoption opportunities is also a key step in addressing the problem, helping to improve the living conditions of dogs and the safety of the community.
